The Slumbering Church
Jesus Christ
died for the sins of the world and His death, burial and resurrection is the
basis of the gospel of salvation. Salvation is primarily about deliverance from
the sin nature (Matthew 1:21); translation from darkness to light and becoming
a new creature in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
The Bible in
Isaiah 58:1 commands Ministers of the Gospel to ‘cry aloud, spare not, lift up
thy voice like a trumpet, and show my people their transgression, and the house
of Jacob their sins.’
Rather than
preach about sin; its consequences and how to be delivered from the sin nature,
many ministers are busy preaching about earthly prosperity, success and
miracles to a sinful and corrupt congregation which are misleading messages
(Galatians 1:8-9) (2 Peter 1:20-21). Teaching fanciful topics while the
congregation remains captives of the sin nature is spiritual blindness and a clear
spiritual fraud.
Ministers
who preach earthly prosperity while relegating God’s Word in other more
essential areas are leading their members astray to eternal destruction. The
spiritual well-being of the congregation is the basic preoccupation of a
Minister of the Gospel who has not lost his spiritual focus (Ephesians 4:12).
The Last day’s
church now focuses on a culture of materialism that worships mammon; indulges
in promoting extravagance rather than moderation in lifestyles, and immoral
values (Romans 16:17-18). The church teaches men’s wisdom rather than God’s
wisdom (Proverbs 23:4); teaching what men want to hear to be approved of men,
rather than teach what God wants His people to hear (Isaiah 58:1).
The Last
Days Church is busy building cathedrals rather than building the souls of men
which Christ died for. Funding church buildings have taken pre-eminence over
financing evangelistic activities to win lost souls into the Kingdom of God. The
church has become a business center where buying and selling in various forms
go on (Mark 11:17) (Nehemiah 10:31) (Leviticus 26:43).
It is time
for the slumbering church to wake up and re-focus.
