Are You His Servant?
Texts: 1 Kings 18:36-38.
In the churches today, people are recognized more by their
titles and positions, than by their service and functions. In the body of
Christ, many believers are seeking for titles and positions to gain the recognition
of men. Some engage in a ‘’pull-him-down syndrome’’ in order to take over the
positions of others which is a covetous attitude that damns souls in eternal
destruction (Ephesians 5:3).
As far as God and His Word go, the church ministry is based on
service and not on status. Status does not impress God and cannot move Him to
action. God moves, and rewards people based on their service, diligence,
faithfulness and obedience to Him.
The fire that fell on Mount Carmel fell not because of
Elijah’s title of prophet but by his service and obedience to God. 1 Kings
18:36 say ‘…let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and have done all these things at thy word’. It
was his service and obedience which God recognized that brought down the fire.
You can serve God diligently and faithfully in the vineyard
without the benefit of a big name, title or position. If you are already a
church worker, become more diligent and faithful, rendering true service in
whatever position you may be. The Lord who is not unrighteous to forget your
labour of love will reward you (Hebrews 6:10). Promotion is not from the east
or the west but comes from the Lord (Psalm 75:6).
If you are a church member still warming the bench, take
note that there is much more to church than singing and clapping hands. There
are many believers sitting in the church yet to find their place. Look for your
place in the body of Christ and get involved. The work is much but the laborers
are few.
There are many offices in the vineyard where you can work for
God. Look for what you can do but do it diligently and faithfully. Many are
called but few are chosen. Do not be ashamed to be known as a servant of God
even in a menial capacity.
God created the ministry of helps in 1 Corinthians 12:27-28.
This ministry consists of people who render help to the needy and to the pastorate.
The help they render to the pastorate frees them from administrative duties to
focus more on the spiritual, to seek God’s face, to hear from Him what He wants
to do next.
If you want to bring down
the fire of God in your life and church, you must become a true and faithful
servant working diligently to satisfy the Lord who owns the work and not men.
