The Compromised Christian (2)

Pharaoh told the Jews in Exodus 8:28 that;
'' I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to the Lord your God in the wilderness: only ye shall not go very far away...''
By this 2nd compromise, the Devil allows you to become a Christian but tells you not to go faraway from him. He tells you that:
''Christianity is a foreign religion, do not be mad about it.''
'' Do not be a narrow minded Christian.''
" Do not be a fanatic.'
"" Holiness is not possible."'
This 2nd compromise tells you to remain in the twilight where you can easily be overcome by darkness without resistance.
Christians whose seeds fell on rocky soil in the Parable of the Sower are victims of this compromise. They lacked deep roots.
When the Jews were redeemed by the Blood of the Passover Lamb, they were commanded to leave Egypt meaning separation from the world.
Christians are called out of the world to be a chosen generation and a peculiar people, called out of darkness into the marvellous light ( 1 Peter 2:9).
We must go very far away from the Devil. We must cross the Red Sea to enter into the Highway of Holiness ( Isaiah 35:8) to be able to reign with Christ in eternity.
Compromised Christians have no eternity with Christ. We need to examine our lives as Christians whether we are close to Egypt or very far away from it.
We shall not fall into this trap of the Devil in Jesus name. We shall not go from the church to eternal Hell in the name of Jesus Christ.
If we have fallen already, the mercy of God will restore us to the faith in the name of Jesus Christ.
Pray: Spirit of Egypt, come out of my life in the name of Jesus Christ.

After Death is Judgment

Once to die, then judgment ( Hebrews 9:27).
Are you ready for that judgment?
Jesus tells us those that will make either Heaven or Hell ( John 5:24)( John 8:24)
Judgment day will decide where one will spend his eternity either Heaven or Hell depending on how he lived here.
God never brings judgment without prior warning. In the days of Noah, the message of repentance was preached for 120 years before the judgment came yet multitudes perished in sin through willful disobedience.
Only one life to live and no repentance after death, no second chance in the grave.
Readiness to meet Jesus is worth more than anything in the world - money, houses, lands, career, businesses, families etc.
Repent before it is too late. Give your heart to Jesus the Saviour ( Revelations 3:20).

Only One Life !

Life is a gift but for a while ( James 4:14) Many are so busy that they forget how short life is.
Life has no guarantee of tomorrow. One may be alive by morning and be dead by night ( Psalm 90:9-10)
Only one life to live here and prepare for your eternity. How are you living your life now?
Is it to pursue power, riches, materialism at the expense of your immortal soul ? ( Matthew 16:26)
Do you have time for God?
How you live your life here will determine your eternal destination.
Do not listen to deceivers who say there is no Heaven or Hell. The Bible warns about Hell in so many verses including Matthew 5:22, 29,30.
It will be an eternal tragedy to miss Heaven. No man can tell how much time he has left to live.
Repent now and make your ways right with God before it is too late.
No more delay, today is the day of your salvation. Now, now, now is the accepted time to repent ( 2 Corinthians 6:2).
Confess your sins to Jesus, make Him your Lord and Savior and walk with Him on the Narrow Way to Life.
There is no salvation in any other name than Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth and the Life ( John 14:6)

Rejecting the Ark of Salvation?

Multitudes perished in sin during the Judgment of the first world in the days of Noah. Only 8 souls who entered into the Ark of Salvation were saved.
Those who perished did not perish because they sinned but they perished because they rejected God's Ark of Salvation.
God was willing to save them from their sins and eternal destruction, but they rejected the Ark preferring destruction rather than salvation.
The message of repentance was preached for 120 years in that era, yet only 8 souls were saved from that destruction.
They were saved because they heeded the message of repentance and entered into the Ark of Salvation.
Jesus Christ is now our Ark of Salvation to convey man into eternity with God. Have you accepted Him as your Lord and Savior or rejecting Him?
God forces no one to be saved or to perish because He created man with freewill.
The 8 that were saved in the world of Noah chose to be saved while the multitudes that perished chose to perish.
Choose Jesus, choose eternal life
Reject Jesus, choose eternal death.
What is your choice?
Your choice determines your eternal destination.
The Ark of Salvation is waiting and it's doors will soon be shut. Have you entered?
Enter now that you have the time and the opportunity. Further delay can cost one his eternity.
Repent now and enter into the Ark of Salvation before it is too late. God is not willing that sinners perish but He cannot force anyone to repent.
Rejecting the Ark of salvation means choosing to be separated from God in eternity and to go into the Lake of Fire.
The choice is yours !
Pray: Lord, have mercy on me, I am a sinner.

Remember Lot's Wife ( Luke 17:32)

She was delivered by grace from the destruction of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah but looked back and became a pillar of salt.
Are you a Christian saved by grace but now looking backwards? Examine your life whether you are still in the faith ( 2 Corinthians 13:5).
Lot's wife perished after her salvation because her heart was attached to the things of the world.
This tells us that salvation can be lost and is not an unforfeitable possession.
Do not listen to deceivers propagating the false doctrine of 'Once saved, forever saved.'
You have a role to play and a responsibility to maintain your salvation and guard it against possible loss.
Is your heart far away from Christ, merely serving Him with your lips? ( Matthew 15:8)
Do you love the world and its lusts contrary to loving the Father? ( 1 John 2:15-17).
Is the fire still burning in your heart or already quenched by the love of the world ? ( Leviticus 6:12-13)
Are you living for the flesh, minding the things of the flesh above the things of the spirit ?( Romans 8:1-13)
Check your christian life again whether you are still in the faith or already looking backwards and headed for destruction like Lot's wife?
Are you fellowshipping with the Light or mixing with the darkness in the world? ( 1 John 1:6-7)
Repent and amend your ways before it is too late. May we not go from church to Hell in Jesus name.

Sheep Christian or Goat Christian?

Matthew 25:33 says, ' and he shall set the sheep on his right hand and the goats on the left.''
Jesus is referring to the church. There are both sheep and goats in the church.
On the day of judgment, they will be separated. The sheep will be admitted into eternity with Christ while the goats will be sent to eternal Hell.
We need to have a sober reflection of our Christian lives. Are we His sheep or are we goats in the body of Christ?
Jesus recognizes only the sheep. He says in John 10:27, ' my sheep hear my voice, and I know them and they follow me.''
We need to ponder about 4 issues from the verse in John 10:27
Are we His sheep?
Are we hearing His voice?
Does Jesus know us?
Are we following Him?
The sheep is a meek and gentle animal, not troublesome like the goat. A disciple of Jesus should be as a sheep, submissive to the shepherd, Jesus Christ and easy to rule.
A disciple as a sheep is peaceful, obedient, teachable, loving, humble and trusting.
The goat is a stubborn animal, disobedient and difficult to control. There are many goats in the body of Christ. A goat Christian will not take to correction but accuse of being judged.
He does his own will, not the will of the Shepherd. Jesus says in Luke 6:46, ' why do you call me Lord, Lord, yet do not do what I say?
Examine your life if you are still in the faith. You claim to know Jesus, but does Jesus know you? Jesus knows only His sheep, not the goats.
Are you a sheep Christian or a goat Christian? Do we manifest the characteristics of the sheep in our lives as Christians or the characteristics of the goat are manifest?
Are you following Jesus or following the world? Whose voice are you listening to? Is it the voice of Jesus or the voice of the Devil?
May we not go from the church to Hell in Jesus name.

Are You Ready?

Like a thief in the night
Jesus will come
Like a thief in the night
The Lord shall return
Are you ready, are you ready?
Are you ready?
For the coming of the Lord
Who died for you?
Are you ready, are you ready?
Are you ready?
For the coming of the Lord
Who died for you?
Brother, watch and pray
Sister, watch and pray
Like a thief in the night
Jesus will come
Like a thief in the night
The Saviour shall return.

Go and Tell Them

Go and Tell Them
Go and tell them
Go and tell them
Jesus died for every man
Go and tell them
Go and tell them
He is coming back again.

Prayers for Grace Not to Fall

The power of God to keep standing and not to fall, rest upon me in Jesus name ( 1 Corinthians 10:12)
The power of God not to fall in the faith rest upon me continually in Jesus name ( Luke 22:32)
The power of God not to return to the world like Demas ( 2 Timothy 4:10), rest upon me in Jesus name.
The power of God not to look back like Lot's wife, rest upon me continually in Jesus name ( Luke 17:32)
O Lord God, keep me by your power (1 Peter 1:5)
Power of God to be focused on Jesus Christ as the author and the finisher of our faith, rest upon us in Jesus name ( Hebrews 12:1-2).
The power of God to run our Christian race victoriously and be among the overcomers that Jesus is coming for, rest upon us in Jesus name ( Hebrews 12:1-2).

Spirit of the Fear of God

The power and the grace to serve God in holiness and righteousness all the days of our lives, come upon us in Jesus name ( Luke 1:74-75)
Power to perfect holiness in the fear of God, come upon us in Jesus name ( 2 Corinthians 7:1).
The fear of God to depart from evil, come upon us in Jesus name ( Proverbs 16:6)
Spirit of the fear of God; spirit of counsel; spirit of might; spirit of knowledge, spirit of wisdom; spirit of understanding and the spirit of the Lord, rest upon us all in Jesus name ( Isaiah 11:2)

Preparing for Vanity or for Eternity?

' they did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.' ( Luke 17:27).
Those that perished in the Judgment of the first world in the Days of Noah devoted the totality of their hearts, energies and time to the affairs of the world but paid no attention to the afterlife and things that are eternal.
Are you currently making the same error? Are you devoted to pleasures but having no time for the matters that have a direct bearing with the eternal destination of your soul?
Are you devoting all your time and resources to make elaborate preparations for New Year Day celebration; Christmas, Easter, Birthdays, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentine's Day and many other worldly celebrations which are one day events but making virtually no preparations for your eternal destination which is everlasting and timeless, unending.
Have you repented and converted? ( Acts 2:38)
Are you born again? ( John 3:3)
Is your name in the Book of Life? ( Revelation 20:15)
Have you crossed from death to life? ( John 5:24)
Are you cleansed in the Blood of Jesus ?( 1 John 1:6-7)
Do you confess Jesus as Lord? ( Romans 10:9)
Have you inherited eternal life in Jesus Christ? ( John 3:16)
If you have not, that means you are making the same tragic error that occurred in the days of Noah. Those that perished gained the whole world but lost their eternal soul ( Matthew 16:26). They lived for their mortal bodies but neglected their immortal and eternal soul.
They lived their lives for the mortal flesh while neglecting spiritual values that are eternal. Their hearts were devoted to carnality above spirituality and made no concrete plans for their eternity.
Have a sober reflection. Are you now living your life on Earth as in the days of Noah? Running after vanity at the detriment of your eternity?
Repent now and enter into the Ark of salvation before it becomes too late. Jesus is our Ark of salvation. Those that perished in the days of Noah perished because they ignored the Ark of Noah, which was their Ark of salvation.

The Compromised Christian (1)

Pharaoh told the Jews in Exodus 8:25
' Go ye, sacrifice to God in the land.'
Are you a Christian sacrificing to God in Egypt?
By this compromise offered by Pharaoh, the Devil tells you that there is no need being a Born Again Christian, just be a good man and do your best.
This compromise tells you to continue worshipping God with the old Adamic nature intact.
It tells you to seek reformation of character rather than a new life in Christ ( 2 Corinthians 5:17).
Those who accept this compromise say:
' your heart is what God is interested in, not your body, therefore dress any how you like.'
' a little alcohol is not a sin.'
' God is not wicked to send one to Hell.'
' it doesn't matter.'
' God is merciful, commit sin wilfully and repent later.'
' preach about the love of God, not sin and judgment.' They want to hear about the love of God but not His judgment.
Compromised Christians have no eternity with Christ. Our repentance must be total and complete to walk with God.
Check your life. Are you still in the faith or sacrificing to God in Egypt?
May we not go from church to Hell in Jesus name.

Power to overcome sin

Lord Jesus, cleanse me from my sins with your Blood ( 1 John 1:6-7)
Lord Jesus Christ, cleanse me from every filthiness of the flesh and spirit ( 2 Corinthians 7:1)
Spirit of discernment to discern an appearance of sin and the power to flee all appearances of sin, rest upon me in Jesus name ( 1 Thessalonians 5:22)
Power of God to bear and to overcome temptations, rest upon me in Jesus name ( 1 Corinthians 10:13)
Anything in my life that can take me to Hell, Lord Jesus by your mercy, uproot it out of my life ( Matthew 15:13)
Spirit of Egypt and the Spirit of Sodom operating in me, be cast out in Jesus name.
Lord, keep me also from presumptuous sinning and let sin not have dominion over me, then I shall be upright and be free from the great transgression in Jesus name ( Psalm 19:13)

Can a Christian be lost?

Many Christians suppose that they are secure in their salvation because they repented, baptised and are taking part in christian ordinances.
They think that nothing they do can cut them off from Christ, that they could return to wilful sinning and still be saved.
The Bible warns us that God can cut off Christians from Christ if they return to a life of sin.
Therefore, after coming to the knowledge of the truth, a Christian can fall and be cut off from Christ and be lost eternally.
May this falling and eternal loss of our souls not be our portion in Jesus name.
1 Corinthians 10:8 says that 23000 Jews fell in the wilderness when they committed fornication.
John 15:6 says that a Christian who does not abide in Christ, who bears no fruit and is barren will be cast out and burned.
Revelation 3:16 says that lukewarm Christians will be spued out of God's mouth.
Galatians 5:4 says that a Christian can fall from grace.
Matthew 25:30 says a Christian can be cast out.
1 Timothy 1:19-20 says that faith can be shipwrecked.
Matthew 13, the Parable of the Sower talks about Christians who had no root, believed for a while and fell away during temptation.
The doctrine of ' Once saved, forever saved' is a false doctrine from the pits of Hell.
Christians have a role to play in maintaining and sustaining their salvation to the end. Salvation is not an un-forfeitable possession.
Those who endure to the end are the ones that shall be saved ( Matthew 24:13). Revelation 2:7 says that eternity is for the overcomers.
The Bible warns us to take heed lest we fall. 1 Corinthians 10:12 says ' let him that thinks he is standing take heed lest he fall.'
May we not fall and be lost in Jesus name. May we not go from the church to eternal Hell in Jesus name.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, keep me standing in the faith by your power ( 1 Peter 1:5).

Prayers for Revelations

Daniel 2:22 says:
'' He reveals the deep and secret things: he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with Him.''
Lord God, because you are coming for a glorious church without wrinkles, spots or blemish (Ephesians 5:27), reveal to me the hidden stains on my robe of righteousness in the name of Jesus.
Lord God, reveal to me the weights and besetting sins pulling me back and hindering my race to eternity with Christ ( Hebrews 12:1) in the name of Jesus.
Lord God, reveal to me those things in my life causing me to fall short of your expectations ( Proverbs 23:18) ( Romans 3:23) in the name of Jesus.
Lord God, reveal to me the pollutions in my life causing me to rebel against you in the name of Jesus.
Lord God Almighty, uproot out of my life the little foxes ( anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, hatred, malice, envy, covetousness, lust etc.) that can take me to Hell ( Songs of Solomon 2:15) in the name of Jesus.

Let Us Appreciate the Lord God.

Psalm 103:2 says
'' bless the Lord, o my soul and forget not all His benefits.''
Count your blessings, name them one by one
Count your blessings, see what God has done
Count your blessings, name them one by one
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.
Prayer of Thanksgiving:
Lord God Almighty, I say thank you for all benefits and blessings in my life. I appreciate you for my life and health today.
I thank you for the miracle of sleeping and waking up. I thank you for deliverance from the snare of the Fowler and the noisome pestilence, the terrors of the night and the arrows flying by day ( Psalm 91).
I thank you for deliverance from the pestilence that walks about in the night and the destruction that wastes at noon day ( Psalm 91)
I thank you for the provision, protection, preservation and your presence.. I thank you for your many mercies and favours over many years.
I thank you that I was not brought out dead this morning and was not rushed to the hospital for any reason. I thank I am not in the prison and have not been declared missing.
I thank you for family. I thank you for perfecting everything that concerns us ( Psalm 138:8)
"Father, I thank you for the night
And for the pleasant morning light
For rest and food and loving care
And all that makes the world so fair
Help me to do the things I should
To be to others kind and good
In all I do, in work or play
To love thee better day by day."
( Hymn 111).
Brethren, let us cast aside our many challenges and praise the Lord God. It is by His mercies that we are alive this morning when many elsewhere did not wake up.
God is good all the time.

Time for Everything

There is a time to be born and a time to die and after death is judgment ( Hebrews 9:27).
Every man will give an account of himself ( Romans 14:12)
God will bring every work into judgment with every secret thing for good or for evil ( Ecclesiastes 12:14)
Are we ready for Him?
Are our lives right with God?
Today is the day of salvation ( 2 Corinthians 6:2)
Acknowledge your sinful state
Repent of them
Confess your sins to God
Accept Jesus as your Lord & Savior
Live for God & for eternity in view
The end of all things is at hand (1 Peter 4:7)

Preach the Truth God Wants ( Isaiah 58:1)

We need to be preaching much more about sin and repentance; salvation, damnation and hellfire; judgement and the wrath of God. People need to realize that the present world is crumbling.
God will judge this world and the day is coming like a thief in the night.
The popular message now is how to make money and flow with the cares of the perishing world system.
This message has removed the fear of God from many and seems to have forgotten that a Day of Judgement is on the way.
The way many are living their lives is as if this place is the eternal habitation of man.
Those that perished in the judgement of the first world in the Days of Noah perished because they focused too much attention to the lusts of the flesh that is mortal and too little or virtually no attention to the things of the spirit that is eternal.

The Message in Romans 1:28

'' even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind to do those things which are not convenient.''
Why is there so much unrighteousness, corruption, injustice and wickedness in the land despite the array of churches and increase in gospel activities across the world?
It is because many do not retain God in their minds. God is immediately forgotten once they step out of the places of worship. It is when we retain God in our minds that we can have an active fear of God in our lives.
Where people do not retain God in their minds, the tendency is to live their lives anyhow contrary to the ways of God and God gives them over to perverted minds.
We need to practice the presence of God daily wherever we are, outside our place of worship. We can say short prayers, sing hymns and praises, confess the Word etc.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, give me the grace and the empowerment to retain the knowledge of You in my mind every moment in the day.

Lamentations from Heaven

Text: Genesis 6:5-7; Matthew 21:12-13

God laments over the lives of men whom He created fearfully and wonderfully in His image and there are several ways He expresses His grief:

       I.            Our lives as individuals: Genesis 6:5-6 says, ‘’ And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented that He had made man on the earth, and it grieved Him at His heart.’’

II.            Governments of the day being corrupt

  III.            The church of God:

Ø The church has been invaded by the powers of darkness. There are more fake worshipers than true worshipers. There is no genuine love of Christ where many are interested in what God will do for them and are not willing to do anything for Him. The church is divided, lacking in unity and lacking one accord.

Ø In the church, there is no discipline and the power of God is not manifesting in many churches. Many ministers are operating in the flesh. Many evil doctrines are circulating in the church peddled by false teachers that have invaded the church.

Ø The church has lost its dignity. When one should run into the church and come out relieved and rejoicing, the church places heavier yokes on him. The church has become a den of physical and spiritual thieves.

Ø The church is no longer focusing on the salvation of its members but focusing more on church numerical growth by all means without concern for their salvation. Rather than go into the world to seek for lost sheep, many church poach members from other churches.

Ø There are man-made programs for selfish interest. Teachings on holiness and salvation have been cast aside and the main interest in many churches is money.

Ø Many of the worshippers are mere church attendants and miracle seekers, not true worshippers in truth and in spirit.

Ø Many of the programs in the church are not inspired by the Holy Spirit

Ø The majority of the modern day churches have become entertainment centers. Some churches bring comedians to entertain on Sundays.

Ø Some churches focus on teaching their members how to fight witches and witchcraft rather than sin

Ø The church is no longer a safe place as there are many forces of destruction inhabiting it; occultist ministers on the pulpit, destroying the lives  of the people

Ø Many believers are playing with sin secretly and openly. Many are not preaching salvation messages and are not saying the truth.

Ø Many homes are in crisis resulting from wrong marriages and where the homes are not settled, how can the church be settled?

Ø The fire of God has been quenched by careless workers and ministers who are traders and robbers in the church; who have no positive impact in the lives of the members; who are negatively busy in other people’s affairs, and discourage others sincerely interested in serving the Lord

Ø There are too many late comers to church, too many pretenders, and too many rumor mongrels. Many ministers are not interested in the physical and spiritual welfare of the members but interested in their money

Ø Many lack knowledge of the Scriptures, yet are seeking for power and position and are ready to do anything and go to any length to achieve their aim.

Ø Many members hate the Word of God and do not love prayers. They detest hearing the truth and dislike repentance and restitution. Many despise evangelism and do not wish to do away with sin. We are thieves of time if we have no time for the things of God and do not act on the messages we hear.

How can we stop the lamentations of God over our lives?

§  Naked yourself before God
We should allow God’s searching light to show us the condition of our hearts and lives. We should acknowledge our sins and do not deny that they exist.

§  Search yourself
The life of a man is either ruled by God or Satan. We are either slaves to Satan and sin or servants of God and righteousness. If sin rules us, we need to cry out to God to set us free through Jesus Christ who came to the world to deliver us from the bondage to sin and to break the hold of the Devil over our lives. We cannot hide ourselves and sins from God who is Omniscient and sees everything. He sees all our secret thoughts and actions in our lives.

The Command in John 15:10

‘’ if ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I keep my father’s commandments and abide in His love (John 15:10)

By this command, Christians are expected and are under an obligation to obey the Gospel throughout their lives and not only during one brief act of faith. The command emphasizes the extent to which a Christian is expected to be obedient to God.

If we are to be righteous as Jesus was in the world (John 17:14-16), then complete obedience must be rendered. It is not possible for us to be claiming His pardoning grace without His obedient grace.

''And why call me Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say'' (Luke 6:46)

The command on obedience punctures the doctrine that teaches faith without further obedience, which says that a brief act of faith based on Romans 10:9-10 is adequate to assure an eternity with Christ without obedience to His commands. This doctrine is a false teaching not supported in the Bible.

It also punctures the doctrine of an unconditional eternal security.
‘’…and if thou wilt enter into life, obey the commandments (Matthew 19:17)
On the basis of Matthew 19:17, if there is no obedience, there can be no eternity with Christ.

The Expected End (Jeremiah 29:11)

Jeremiah 29:11 says, ‘’ for I know the thoughts that I have towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end.’’

What is the expected end that we are looking forward to as believers in Christ Jesus? Is it an earthly end or an eternal end? Are we focusing our gaze on the world and its perishing values? Is the expected end limited to the riches and pleasures of the world?

Is it not a spiritual shortsightedness when a Christian takes eternity out of his focus and views the things of the world as his main focus? Our expected end should be an eternity with Christ. We should keep eternity in our view so that our lives can be shaped by His righteousness.

‘’ What shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose his soul? What shall a man give in exchange for his soul? (Matthew 16:26)

The multitudes that perished in the floods in the days of Noah lacked an eternal focus. They focused their lives on perishable earthly values – eating and drinking; marrying and giving in marriage; building and planting, and buying and selling (Luke 17:26-30).

Jesus says in John 14:2, ‘’ in my father’s house are many mansions. If it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you may be also.’’

Christ is in heaven; therefore we should have heaven in view as our focus and not allow the temporal things of the world to distract our heavenly and eternal focus as it did in the days of Noah and Lot.

Those that perished in the days of Noah and Lot made the things of the world their chief end in life as if life on earth is forever. Eternity with Christ is the expected end that God has for us.

Self-Exaltation: A Wrong Spirit in the Life of a Christian (Luke 22:24)

Post 112
Why did Jesus Wash the Feet of His Disciples (John 13:1-17)?
Jesus humbled Himself to take the place of a slave to wash feet which in those days in Israel, was considered the duty of the meanest or lowest slave.
Before the feet washing event, the disciples had argued about who would be the greatest among them (Luke 22:24). Jesus had rebuked them by setting a little child in their midst, stated that they had become as little children and were not to seek lording it over each other (Matthew 18:1-10).
By humbling Himself to wash their feet, He sought to rid them of their passion for worldly honor and dignity which would have shaken the foundation of the church after his departure.
Jesus set an example to emphasize the necessity to get rid of self-exaltation in the life of a Christian.
A Christian must rid himself of the spirit of wanting to lord it over others or he will not be saved (Matthew 18:1-10; 23:8-12) (Luke 14:7-11; 18:14). By washing their feet, He rebuked their spirit of strife over leadership.
The feet washing event was to teach Christians to be willing to condescend to render the lowest services to each other and to prefer the least in honor to themselves (Philippians 2:1-7).
It was to also inspire self-denial acts of kindness to those in need; to render service to the needy and those who are the least.

Sectarianism: A Wrong Spirit in the Life of a Christian - Mark 9:38

In Mark 9:38, the disciples of Jesus saw a man casting out demons in the name of Jesus which they frowned at because he did not belong to their group of disciples.
Likewise in Numbers 11:26-29, when the Spirit of God rested upon two men – Eldad and Melad – who prophesied in the Camp, Joshua asked Moses to forbid them.
Eldad and Melad were among the seventy men appointed to assist Moses in judgment and governance and were anointed for the task but the spirit of prophesy came upon them and they prophesied much longer than the others which Joshua frowned at out of jealousy. Moses rebuked Joshua’s act of jealousy rather than rebuke the two men.
Jesus also cautioned his disciples for this wrong spirit in them. He told his disciples that there is no one doing miracles in His name that can speak evil of Him (Mark 9:39) and that anyone who is not against Him is with Him.
If a person does not believe in God and the Holy Spirit as persons, and does not believe in the incarnation of God in human flesh; denies the virgin birth of Christ, His physical death, burial, bodily resurrection and ascension, such a person is not on the side of Jesus but on the side of the Devil.
This is an important lesson for the church today that is divided where many are more concerned about the name of a particular church than for God. They despise and disapprove of any Christian who does not belong to their particular church or group of disciples.
A true Christian will love other Christians from other churches and appreciate them and their work in the Vineyard of God, just as much as if they belonged to his church or group. Jesus prayed for the unity and oneness of all believers just as God and Christ are one (John 17:21).
If Christianity is one Jesus, one Gospel, one Body of Christ, one fold and one Shepherd and if the doctrines and tenets of the faith are the same, believing in the virgin birth of Christ, His physical death, burial, bodily resurrection and ascension into Heaven to the right hand of God the Father as the head of the church, why is there so much division in Christendom today?
