The Power of the Flesh

Message: The Power of the Flesh
Text: Galatians 5:16-18; Romans 8:14

The flesh is known as the Old Man or the Old Nature. It has a lot of power and works contrary to the Spirit.

The expectation of heaven for us is to cut off the flesh. Esau sold his birthright to gratify his flesh. He did not value spiritual things, married wives from the land contrary to expectation and eventually wasted his destiny.

The flesh is the ladder of the devil into our lives. It cannot be pacified. Galatians 5:19-22 lists the by-products of the flesh which can keep one out of the Kingdom of God. The power of the flesh escorts people to hell fire.

It destroys people’s lives and destinies; has caused divorce in the homes of many, both Christian believers and unbelievers. It was the power that nailed Jesus to the Cross.
The wisdom and power of God is dwelling in the Word of God. The Gospel is the power of God (2 Corinthians 5:14-15).

The flesh always obstructs the goals of the Spirit. God does not speak to a man through the flesh but through his spirit. We have to distinguish the voice of the Spirit from the voice of the flesh.

The flesh cannot be pampered or begged or appeased.

The only way to overcome the flesh is through crucifixion (Galatians 5:24). The Old Man must die. It is the flesh that makes married women to remove their skirts for their houseboys or other men and they call it freedom to enjoy.

To overcome the flesh is to crucify it (Galatians 5:24)
Reckon that the flesh is dead and that you are alive unto Christ (Romans 6:11)
Run away from sin and all appearances of sin and the devil (1 Thessalonians 5:22)
Agree with Galatians 2:20

Prayers:

1.     lord, break me down and let Mr. Self in me die in Jesus name

2.     Lord, give me the power to walk in the Spirit in Jesus name

3.     Lord, remold my life to conform to you in Jesus name

4.     You Hell, my life is not your candidate in Jesus name
