Your Heart & Your Salvation

Your Heart & Your Salvation

Right from the beginning, God took notice that the imagination of the thoughts in the hearts of men was evil in its entirety. This means that every concept, purpose and desire in the hearts of men is wickedness. And God regretted that He created man (Genesis 6:5-6).

Due to the sad Fall of Man in the Garden of Eden, the hearts of men came under the influence and control of the Devil. Jesus Christ, in Mark 7:21-23 confirmed God’s observation stating that ‘ for from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornication, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness…’’

God is interested in having control over the hearts of men. In Deuteronomy 5:29, He said:

‘O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children forever.’’

1 Samuel 16:7 says that God looks on the heart of men. 2 Chronicles 16:9 also says that the eyes of the Lord run to and fro the earth seeking for men with perfect hearts.

Two forces –God and the Devil – are interested in gaining control of the heart of a Man. The heart of man is the factory of his life where his thoughts, for good or evil are processed. The force that controls the heart determines its affections, devotions and its eternal destination.

However, man has the final say in determining whom he will give access because man was created with the power of choice known as free will. God does not force His will on men because His love allows man to make his own decisions, but will give account.

The state of your heart can determine your eternal destination. What goes on in your heart? Consider your thought life. What is a thought? A thought is the talking of the soul to itself. A thought is an unspoken word. A thought occurs when a man thinks within himself. Your thoughts reveal what goes on in your heart, whether holy or impure thoughts, whether for God or for the Devil.

Your thought life may be sinful. Did Jesus not say in Matthew 5:28 that when a man looks at a woman lustfully, he has committed the sin of adultery (a damnable sin) already in his heart? This Jesus statement confirms that you can commit adultery without physically jumping into bed with a woman. The thought of it is as deadly as the act itself.

Your thoughts, if sinful defile your heart which is a component of the temple of God which your body is (Mark 7:23) (1 Corinthians 3:16-17). We may say that the body is the temple of God while our hearts is the altar of God within the temple. If any component in the temple is polluted or corrupted, then we are liable for Judgment (1 Corinthians 3:17).

Watch your thoughts!
The rich fool in Luke 12:16-21 was judged by his thoughts. He did not live to construct the larger barns he thought to build. His soul was called home for judgment on the basis of his thoughts which did not give glory to God. His thoughts kept God in the backseat in his life.He thought to spend his riches on himself alone which is covetousness.

Watch your thoughts! They are as deadly as the real act itself.

Your thoughts can determine your eternal destination, to heaven or to hell. All the sins of the heart such bitterness, UN-forgiveness, hatred, malice, envy, jealousy etc are damnable sins that can take you to hell if you do not deal with them.

But it is not by your own power or might that you can overcome evil thoughts (Zechariah 4:6). To overcome evil thoughts that do not give glory to God or are unacceptable in His sight (Psalm 19:14), you need to ask for the grace and the power of God.

The only way to overcome evil thoughts is to submit yourself to the leadership of the Lord Jesus Christ who gives you the power. Then you have to study God’s Word, memorize and meditate upon it continually in your heart. It is the Word of God that converts the soul (Psalm 19:7).

Additionally, you have to begin to think and meditate on things that are honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous and praise worthy (Philippians 4:8). Then determine in your heart that you will henceforth reject impure, immoral or discouraging thoughts. The grace of God, the power of God & your determination work.

Rather than talk sin to yourself i.e. meditating on impure thoughts (James 1:13-15), talk God’s Word to yourself. You have a role to play in the salvation of your soul, go and fulfill your part.

Prayer Points:
1) Lord Jesus, i repent of all the evil thoughts i have ever meditated upon
2) Blood of Jesus, wash my heart anew in Jesus name
3) O God my Father, give me a new heart, a heart of flesh, a circumcised heart in Jesus name (Deuteronomy 30:6)
4) Lord Jesus pass through my heart by fire and uproot every satanic plantation militating against my salvation in Jesus name.
