Lessons to learn from the Life of King Manasseh (2 Chronicles 33)

Lessons to learn from the Life of King Manasseh (2 Chronicles 33)

King Manasseh was one of the worst kings in Judah. 2 Chronicles 33:9 says,

‘’ So King Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to err, and to do worse than the heathen, whom the Lord had destroyed before the children of Isreal’’

Leaders like King Manasseh exist in our world today especially in the Church. There are believers and unbelievers who intentionally turned a blind eye to the glaring evidences of the existence and power of the Almighty God.

King Manasseh was the son of a godly and righteous father, King Hezekiah who was one of the best Kings in the history of Judah. The greatest revival in Judah occurred during King Hezekiah’s reign and one of the greatest miracles in history took place – the destruction of a mighty Assyrian army where 185,000 soldiers were destroyed in one night by an Angel of God.

King Manasseh knew and heard of these yet he deliberately chose to push God to the backseat and led his subjects into spiritual idolatry and religious prostitution.

There are many Manassehs today who are leading others to false gods that include intellectual pride, humanism and free thinking. They have turned a blind eye to the glaring and overwhelming evidences of God’s acts in creation as well as the evidences of the reliability of the events in the Bible.

There are many King Manasseh in the Last Day church who like Hymaneaus and Alexander in 1Timothy 1:20 have made a shipwreck of their own faith and are shipwrecking the faith of other Christians. They are diverting people from the path of the truth and the light to the paths of error and spiritual darkness (Isaiah 9:2) heading to eternal destruction.

However, King Manasseh humbled himself in the latter part of his reign, acknowledging that the Lord was God. He repented of his folly while in exile and God restored him to his kingdom where he started a revival and ended as a good King with good records (2 Chronicles 33:12-19).

There are many Manassehs in the Church today – false teachers peddling doctrines of demons – that lure people from the true faith to fall into error. Where Christ taught about self-denial (Mark 8:34), the false teachers in the Church lead their congregations to submit to base passions in the name of ‘’happiness’’ and ‘’enjoyment’’ – a life of unrestricted ease and pleasure - that leads to spiritual death (1Timothy 5:6).

If you allow the Manassehs in the Church to mislead you and you die in your sins, you will go to Hell for eternity. King Manasseh later repented and God forgave and restored him.

Ezekiel 18:27 says,
‘’if the wicked turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does that which is lawful and right, he will save his soul alive’’

That is the character of God. He is a merciful God who is more willing to show mercy than to judge. He is not happy in the death of a sinner but that the sinner repents. The Bible says that the mercy of God triumphs over judgment (James 2:13).

How about some of those whom Manasseh misled, who did not repent, who probably died in their sins and went to hell for eternity? Everlasting regrets would be theirs!
Do not be a victim of the Manassehs in the church and do not allow them to send you to Hell.

Salvation is an individual thing and every man will give his own personal account. If the Manasseh in the church repents, God being merciful will forgive and restore them. If they are faithful to God and can endure to the end, they will end up in heaven while their misled members who died in sin end up in hell.

So, watch it! Take the Bible, read and study it by yourself and ask the Holy Spirit who is the author of the Word to minister to you (John 14:26).
